*The training plane was installed in August 1986, but it looks like it could be much older as it was frequently used for fire fighting exercises by airfield fire crews and Newbury firefighters; it was doused with fuel via underground pipeline, then set alight for teams to manage.

Ashmansworth is the highest village in Hampshire and throughout its history experienced difficulties with maintaining an adequate supply of drinking water with the only source being Mere Pool and the 100m well at Church Farm until piped water was installed in the 1930s.
